Since October 7th, 2023, we the Jewish People have suffered unimaginable loss. Innocent men, women, and children were murdered; brave soldiers have given their lives defending Am Yisrael and we have all felt this loss deeply in our souls. Every person is a world and we believe the most powerful way to honor each and every one of these Kedoshim is to transform pain into purpose and darkness into light.

Mitzvot of Light is our community-wide initiative to do exactly that. We are challenging you to take on one mitzvah this year—dedicated in memory of a civilian or soldier who has fallen. These mitzvot become a living legacy, ensuring their names are remembered not only in grief, but in action.

May these mitzvot bring merit to their Neshamot and may their memories be a blessing forever

L'iluy Neshama

  1. Choose a mitzvah that is meaningful to you.
    • It could be attending minyan more often, giving extra tzedakah, lighting Shabbat candles on time, studying a short piece of Torah, or performing an act of chesed. However, it is not limited to just these.
  2. Sign up online and you will be paired with the name of a fallen civilian or soldier.
  3. Carry out your mitzvah this year in their merit (l’iluy nishmatam).

A Mitzvah Can Be Small

This is not about making a heavy or overwhelming commitment. You don’t have to take on something every day—or even every week. Mitzvot of Light is about adding just one more mitzvah to your life.

No matter how small it may feel, your mitzvah matters. Lighting a candle, saying a bracha with intention, giving a coin to tzedakah, visiting someone who is lonely—each one of these brings light into the world and elevates the soul of the departed. Together, all of our small acts add up to something powerful.

What Mitzvah are you committing to?
Briefly describe your mitzvah (e.g., attend minyan weekly, light Shabbat candles on time, give tzedakah monthly) and what it means to you.
Do You Need Help With Your Mitzvah? Our goal is for there to be no barriers to participating.
What assistance do you need to participate in Mitzvot of Light?
Your mitzvah is the greatest way to honour those we lost. If you would like, you may also make a voluntary contribution to support Mitzvot of Light.

Funds will go directly toward sustaining this program and supporting Israel advocacy efforts as well as families affected by the ongoing war in Israel
